Silence!

The government doesn't want you to know what it's doing. If they investigate you under the Patriot Act, even if it's not for terrorism, you're not allowed to talk about it. A bill is making it's way through the senate that would penalize anyone who discloses any information about government surveillance. Sen. Mike Dewine of Ohio (R) is the chief author. His office claims that "It in no way applies to reporters...", but of course, that is what they would say. Once enacted and a reporter discloses something, you'll see just how true that is.

The bill would "penalize anyone who 'intentionally discloses information identifying or describing' the Bush administration's terrorist surveillance program or any other eavesdropping program".

That's how it starts. Laws that seem insignificant that later on, years, maybe decades, get amended or expanded to include more and more scenarios until ultimately, speaking out about anything will get you in trouble.
